The commonalities I observed in the stories told were that it changed and affected the person who told them. Everyone’ lives were changed by their experiences. The difference was the way their lives were changed and how. Everyone’s experiences and stories were different. Many of the stories central theme was around losing someone and how they grew as a person from that. My theme was based off my volunteering experience. I was able to gain a whole new perspective, going from a student point of view to a teacher. I was able to focus on someone else’s problem that had nothing to do with me. Through my experience, I learned that I want to help other people. This helps authenticate my experience at Loyola because one of the Jesuit ideas is to help others and to think about other people. The idea is to gain the perspective of other people. I believe I have to remind myself of how others need help and I could make a difference in the lives of other people. I have to stay motivated though. In the mist of all my school work and my personal life, I get exhausted. Sometimes I just want to stay in bed the whole day. From my fellow students, staff, faculty, I need them to continue to challenge me throughout my education. I want to be able to gain the confidence in myself to know that I can do it. Furthermore, from the faculty and staff, I need them to support me as I continue to strive for greater and better things.
