I visited Greektown. When I was assigned this project, I had never heard of the neighborhood. However, I inferred that it would be an average place and there would be nothing special about it. But I kind of had a feeling that since the assignment was supposed to create a new perspective, there might be something about this place worth checking out. When I was researching and read the history, I was intrigued. The Grecians made their community and then were forced to move out of it. The government build a college there and it changed the lived of everyone there. After visiting, this experience has taught me not to judge any place or create any set thoughts on it before I actually go there. I think Greektown is in many senses different from my own. My neighborhood is diverse and separated, whereas in Greentown, even though the people are diverse, they are tied together by Greek influence. I think unlike the other neighborhoods presented, Greektown was different in the sense that it had no known stigmas attached to it. This experience has made me want to go explore more places around the city. I especially want to go check out the south part of Chicago. It’s known to be violent and dangerous but ever since I got to Loyola, I’ve been told different. No one here thinks that the south side is bad. When talking to my friends about it, they say that I would be shot if I go there. I’ve heard both sides of it and this makes me want to go check it out for myself. I also would love to go check out the other cities in Chicago as well. I think because I have lived here my whole life and only ever visited one part of the city, I need to explore more. I want to be well acquainted with the places around me and be able to tell people that I have been there. I was born in the suburban part of Illinois and now that I have to opportunity to live in the famous city of Chicago, I want to travel throughout all the cities. I want to explore and find the hidden beauties that are in these cities.
